On March 18th, DigDeep made a pretty memorable impression at the L.A. Marathon thanks to my brother, John.
Several months ago, he asked me if DigDeep would be willing to let him run to raise both awareness, and funds, for our field work in South Sudan.
Willing? Please.
We were thrilled to have someone like John on board. Through the process of planning the event, watching him train, and getting my friends together in L.A. it got me thinking…
What if we could defend the human right to water by simply striving to be the best version of ourselves?
What if, like John, we took one of the gifts we’ve been given and created a personal challenge. This time, however, with the end result not only being an accomplishment for ourselves - but one that enhances another’s life as well.
As I stood at the finish line watching the runners cross (smiling, sweating and panting), I saw John bouncing through with a smile on his face. I could not help but think about the authentic joy he radiated 26.2 miles and 3 hours and 20 minutes later. I certainly would not feel that way after such a physical endeavor…
It then dawned on me: he wasn’t running for himself. He was running for something he believed in… a cause that generated a different kind of energy and commitment. An awareness like this puts fundraising on a whole new level … it becomes that much more personal.
DigDeep has an incredible network of young, talented individuals… parents, teachers, researchers, artists, the list goes on. You’re one of them. So think: where can you dig a little deeper to donate a talent for good.
If you have a talent you want to share in effort to defend the human right to water … We’d love to hear from you!
